Biography

Wendy Machalicek, Ph.D., BCBA-D is an Associate Professor in Special Education and research faculty with Educational and Community Supports. She is also core faculty in the future Applied Behavior Analysis Program and an affiliated faculty of the Prevention Science graduate programs within the Counseling Psychology and Human Services Department. Dr. Machalicek received her Ph.D. in Special Education with an emphasis in autism and developmental disabilities from the University of Texas at Austin.

Her scholarship is focused on developing effective behavior analytic assessment practices and interventions addressing the behavioral and educational needs of young children (18 months - 8 years of age) with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities and single-case research design methods. She is particularly interested in the assessment and treatment of challenging behavior and in evaluating ways to improve the acquisition, generalization, and sustained use of evidence-based practices by caregivers, teachers, and schools. She is the PI of Project CO-LEAD which is an OSEP Leadership Grant across the University of Oregon, Purdue University, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with an aim to train 18 doctoral students as future faculty in the areas of autism, implementation science, and cultural adaptation of interventions. She is also the PI of the Institute for Education Sciences funded Methods Training Institute in Advanced Single-Case Research Design and Analysis and is a consultant for the revision of reviewer standards for single-case research (2020-present) for the IES WWC Statistical, Technical, and Analysis Team.

She is also the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Positive Behavior interventions, the Editor-in-Chief of Developmental Neurorehabilitation, and an Associate Editor of Remedial and Special Education. Internationally, she is on the Cochrane Rehabilitation advisory committee.

Publications

To date, Dr. Machalicek has 93 peer-reviewed publications and 14 book chapters pertaining to assessment and intervention to improve the communication and social skills, play, and challenging behavior of children and youth with autism and other developmental disability. These articles been published in a variety of journals, including the American Journal on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Behavior Modification, Education and Training in Autism and Developmental Disabilities, Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions, Research in Developmental Disabilities, and Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders. Dr. Machalicek actively engages students in applied research as evidenced by 48% of her publications including student co-authors.
