Data Requests

Questions?

If you have questions regarding the data requestor or data use process, please contact the ECS Evaluation Coordinator.

As a research unit housing the Center on PBIS, ECS maintains datasets that can be made available for limited use by external researchers for specific purposes. Data requests require approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the researcher’s institution and agreement to follow conditions of the IRB protocols maintained by ECS.

ECS maintains data sets from the following PBISApps applications:  School-wide Information Systems (SWIS), Check-In Check-Out (CICO-SWIS), Individual SWIS (I-SWIS), and PBIS Assessment. The following documents describe the process for requesting the use of datasets.

Keep In Mind

As stewards of these rich data, we do our best to work with individuals and teams on their requests, but to address some common issues we have with data requests, please consider the following:

  • Scope: Although our data span across years, states, and districts, please be judicious in your requests. Extensive requests (e.g., Years “2010-2025”, “All” states) are rarely required to answer key research questions.
  • Implementation Measures: Implementation measures vary in use across time and states. Consider limiting requests to one or two key measures. You can review resources on the Center on PBIS website to familiarize yourself with available implementation measures.
  • School Climate Measures: The School Climate Survey exists in multiple forms. Please review resources on the Center on PBIS website to identify which versions are important for your research questions and specify them on the data request form. Please note that the School Safety Survey was retired in 2021-22.
